Orlando Museum of Art Victim of Basquiat Counterfeit Scheme: DOJ
The FBI executed a search warrant at the Orlando Museum of Art in June 2022, seizing all 25 paintings from its 'Heroes & Monsters: Jean-Michel Basquiat' exhibition on suspicion that they were forgeries. A California auctioneer subsequently admitted to fabricating the works and falsely attributing them to Basquiat, with museum director Aaron De Groft being fired days after the raid.
