Art Market Integrity Act Introduced with Bipartisan Support to Combat Money Laundering Risks in the Art Industry
US Senators Chuck Grassley and John Fetterman introduced the Art Market Integrity Act in Congress to bring the American art market under anti-money laundering and sanctions compliance obligations, citing high-profile cases including the use of art purchases by Hezbollah financier Nazem Ahmad and Kremlin-linked oligarchs Arkady and Boris Rotenberg to evade sanctions. The bill was partly driven by a 2024 Treasury report identifying the art market as particularly susceptible to money laundering and sanctions evasion.
