Hauser and Wirth Charged with Breaching Russia Sanctions by U.K. Authorities

The U.K. Crown Prosecution Service charged the London branch of Hauser & Wirth and art shipping company Artay Rauchwerger Solomons (formerly Art Logistics Co.) with criminally breaching Russia sanctions by making George Condo's work on paper 'Escape from Humanity' (2021) available to Alexander Popov, a collector connected to Russia, in 2022. The prosecution was described as the first of its kind under UK luxury goods sanctions law; the gallery denied wrongdoing and pleaded not guilty.
